2. Chemotherapy and Radiation
Many cancer patients experience what is commonly referred to as ‘chemo mouth.’ As with drugs, the chemicals and toxins in the chemo can affect the sense of taste, as can radiation treatment. Some studies have shown that supplementing with vitamin D and/or zinc can help alleviate the condition. Unfortunately, many oncologists insist that their patients take no supplements during treatment, in spite of the fact that there are no scientific reasons for this. In fact, there are a number of studies showing that certain supplements can assist cancer patients cope with the treatment and can actually enhance the effectiveness of the chemo treatment.
