3. Reduce sugar intake
Sugar can also contribute to water retention since it is the primary source of insulin which is also used by the body to process and get rid of the salt in our system. Sugar may contribute indirectly to water retention but since there are lots of kinds of sugar in all foods we have today it can have a significant effect to it. Avoid sweet foods like candies, cakes, cookies, soda and any food that has high sugar content. You may use sugar substitutes or natural sweeteners instead to fight water retention.
