2. Standing or Sitting Still for Long
Standing or sitting still for too long can also cause Edema. When a person is standing or sitting still for too long, the muscles are inactive but circulation of blood throughout the body is continuous. This inactivity leads to the blood vessels not stretched for a period of time eventually resulting to the blood vessels being leaky. Water from the vessels is leaked to the surrounding tissues and muscles. The swelling then starts to be noticeable when a slight pain is felt and the affected areas become bulging and uncomfortable.
