Look at the list of ingredients in your favourite carbonated drink: it looks like a recipe for a chemistry lesson! And even the ingredients that sound fine – high fructose corn syrup for example (fructose is in fruit so that’s got to be fine, right?) are threatening your health. It’s very unlikely you could harm yourself eating the natural fructose that’s in fruit and vegetables but the stuff that’s in those fizzy drinks could give you non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
In fact, our love for carbonated drinks has been associated with premature ageing; hormone disruption and some cancers.
