2. Ice packs
Icing the affected area is a popular natural remedy recommended for most types of inflammatory discomfort and sports injury. In the case of shin splits, ice the affected area for 20-30 minutes to ease pain and swelling. Repeat every 3 to 4 hours for a couple of days until the pain subsides.
Massage the area by using an ice pack or a bag of frozen vegetables, taking care not to apply the ice directly on the skin. Instead wrap in a clean cloth or thin towel before applying.
