Since there is no vaccine for the condition, the only way to prevent Zika is to prevent mosquito bites. Some protective measures can include the following recommendations:
1. Wear protective clothing
In areas where the Zika virus is known to exist, it is recommended that individuals protect themselves from the infected mosquitoes by wearing protective clothing. This includes putting on long sleeved shorts and full length bottoms.
It is also a good idea to keep clothing comfortably loose as well since mosquitoes can bite through clothing that is held tight against the skin, especially if the fabric is thin. Clothing may also be treated with permethrin for maximum protection.
