2. Longer than usual menstruation
Fibroids that develop in the inner side of the uterus and extend into the uterine cavity are known as submucosal fibroids and can cause not only excessive but also extensive bleeding. These fibroids while increasing the area of the lining also increase menstrual flow and decrease the normal ability of the lining to stop the bleeding, resulting in prolonged menstruation.
In some cases, women may experience periods that go on for weeks, sometimes with no real break between one period and the next.
