2. Rapid Speech
You may know someone who seems to talk a mile a minute. But rapid speech is more than just being chatty. When it’s a sign of bipolar disorder, rapid speech involves talking quickly and often jumping from one subject to another. Rapid speech is also sometimes referred to as pressure speech, and the individual speaking can talk at such an unusual speed, their words may not be understood. In combination with their fast rate of talking, they may switch topics so quickly, it can be difficult to follow the conversation. They may have a hard time letting you get a word in. Rapid speech often occurs with manic episodes of bipolar. During a manic stage, a person with bipolar may have racing thoughts. When an individual is talking, their racing thoughts come out as rapid speech.
