When a person is well hydrated, their body produces enough saliva in the mouth to keep it adequately moistened. Saliva possess antibacterial properties that regulates bacterial growth in the mouth.
However, when an individual becomes dehydrated, the saliva production in the mouth reduces causing bacterial overgrowth that can present itself as a case of bad breath. The reduced cleaning action of the saliva allows bacterial growth to progress causing unpleasant breath to emanate from the mouth.
