Potatoes have been used as a home remedy to treat eye styes for decades. Potatoes possess natural astringent and antibacterial properties that help to reduce skin irritations and reduce infection. In addition, potatoes also help to decrease the pain and swelling. Choose a medium sized potato and scrub thoroughly in clean water. Dry well and finely grate the potato. Wrap the grated potato in a damp piece of clean cheesecloth and squeeze to allow the potato juice to permeate the cloth. Hold on the affected eye for five to ten minutes. Repeat this process three or four times a day until the stye is healed.
